Petros Makridis
Architect and partner at Makridis Associates
Mr. Petros Th. Makridis was born in Thessaloniki in 1944. He holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1970) and a Master of Architecture from Syracuse University in the USA (1971). In 1971, he co-founded the architectural firm “SVOYRA.” In 1978, he established the technical office P. MAKRIDIS + ASSOCIATES, which, in 2007, adopted its corporate structure under the name Makridis Associates. For the past 15 years, the company has been managed by Theodoros Makridis, Architect (BSc Engineering, MSA Urban Design), and Eleanna Makridi, Architect (MSc, MA). Since 2015, the office has been operating from two locations, Thessaloniki and Athens, maintaining full and seamless collaboration. For more than fifty years, Mr. Makridis has designed and supervised numerous public and private projects across a wide range of uses. Over the past thirty-five years, he has focused extensively on energy-efficient and bioclimatic design, studying climate-related issues, orientation, the integration of renewable energy systems, and ecological construction. Key principles in his approach include optimizing the quality of the built environment, energy conservation, and innovation, while design choices consistently incorporate advancements in technology. He has participated in architectural competitions and has received numerous awards and distinctions. His architectural and urban planning studies, as well as critical commentary on the firm’s work, have been published in various books and journals. He has also presented many of his projects at conferences, workshops, and seminars. Over the past fifteen years, Mr. Makridis has served as a Technical Consultant for the office, working on specific projects such as the “Enhancement of the Monumental Axis of D. Gounari” and the “Holocaust Museum of Greece.”
