Andreas Kourkoulas - The Architect Show

Andreas Kourkoulas

Architect, professor at NTUA and co-founder at Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects

Andreas Kourkoulas and Maria Kokkinou founded their office in 1987 in Athens. The completion of the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street in 2004 established their distinguished position among Greek architects. Their work, showcased in numerous exhibitions at both national and international levels, extends the tradition of local modernism with a critical focus not only on space and program but also on expressing broader humanistic values. They affirm architecture’s role in creating a stable framework of boundaries and spatial relationships that support and make daily public and private life comprehensible, encompassing the richness of rhythm, movement, and emotional patterns. The aesthetic form of their buildings varies significantly but consistently delivers an unforgettable expression of the underlying spatial qualities of architecture, with equal emphasis on spatial organization, materiality, and the quality of light. Andreas Kourkoulas was a Professor of Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, and together with Maria Kokkinou, they have built a practice that has been active for over 35 years, designing architecture across all scales and uses.
